In travel, it doesn’t get much better than an accolade from Lonely Planet.

This year Malawi was voted no.5 ‘Best in Travel’ and the love affair continues with this incredible write up of Malawi. A wonderful read accompanied by some truly breathtaking photos – a treat for both the mind and the eyes!

I’ve been to Africa several times but this was my first trip to Malawi. The thing that struck me was the incredible diversity of experience you can have in a such a small area – you could be on a mountaintop with the fog rolling ominously over the peaks in the morning, and on a boat watching a herd of elephants attempting to cool themselves down in the river in the afternoon. The Malawian welcome is somewhat legendary – my favourite experience was probably rolling into a village in Lake Malawi and being greeted by about 50 kids who followed us around for the rest of the afternoon, huge smiles on their faces.
