Day 1: Malawian Style Guest House, Lilongwe

Welcome to Malawi! Your guide will meet you at Lilongwe International Airport and transfer you to the Malawian Style Guesthouse in Lilongwe where you will be accommodated for the night before proceeding to South Luangwa.

In the heart of Area 12, the guesthouse is a 5 minute walk from The Four seasons centre, 15 minute walk from The Golden Peacock Shopping Centre, and theCity Centre is about 20 minute walk, We are a few kilometres from Kumbali Country Lodge and have a supermarket 50 metres from the house. The house has 6 staff to help cook, clean and look after you. Our home is well furnished and comfortable, with a pool, lovely garden, good social areas, modern kitchen, fast Wi-FI and DSTV.

Day 2-5: Croc Valley Camp, South Luangwa

After a night in Lilongwe, it is now time to head to South Luangwa National Park. You will be transferred by road to Croc Valley Camp.

Croc Valley Camp is set on the banks of the picturesque South Luangwa River. Set in the riverine forest, the camp is designed to be deliberately inconspicuous so as to retain the natural beauty of the surroundings and encourage wildlife to roam freely. An abundance of wildlife such as elephants, monkeys, hippos and a wide variety of antelope often pass through the camp and can be seen most days from the safety of our shaded rondavels, the bar, restaurant, chalets and tents.

On arrival at the camp you will have some time to appreciate your new home in the bush for the next few days. In the evening enjoy dinner at the tented camp restaurant overlooking the Luangwa River, watching elephants cross at dusk, and relax over a drink before retiring for the evening.

Day 5-6: Luwawa Forest Lodge, Viphya Plateau

After a breath-taking safari, we leave South Luangwa to see the best parts of Malawi. After breakfast we will head to the stunning Luwawa Forest Lodge. Here you will be based in chalet accommodation which caters on a full board basis. You will spend one night in the lodge.

The lodge contains most things that you would require for a relaxing stay, including a sauna. There is plenty of room in the dining area of the lodge and all the food is freshly prepared using fresh organic vegetables from their vegetable garden. The staff take great pride in producing wholesome, homely and very tasty organic meals for everyone to enjoy. Breakfast, lunch and evening meals are served but you can also order afternoon snacks if required.

Day 6-8: Luwawa Mountain Bike Trail, Viphya Plateau

The Luwawa Mountain Bike trail takes three days cycling, a total distance of 150km, with the first night spent at Kasito Forestry Lodge with all facilities provided. The second night is spent camping outside Kawalazi Estate Club House, where a bar, showers, toilets and kitchen are provided. All food, cooking, camping and mountain biking equipment for the three days is provided along with a back-up vehicle, guides, mechanic and first aid equipment.

Day 1: Approx. 42km (around 4 hours of cycling + breaks)

Day 2: Approx. 38km (around 4 hours of cycling + breaks)

Day 3: Approx. 40km (around 5 hours of cycling + breaks)

Day 8-10: Makuzi Beach Lodge, Chintheche – Viphya Plateau

After three days of cycling you will end at Makuzi Beach Lodge in Chintheche to rest and recuperate.

Makuzi Beach Lodge is situated on the lush northern shores of Lake Malawi. It is one of the Malawi’s only private white sand beaches which provides guest with a superb, secluded retreat and wonderful views across Africa’s third water fresh lake. All chalets are en-suite with stunning lake views and are set in perfectly manicured gardens. This relaxed lakeshore lodge is a perfect retreat with a well-deserved reputation of warm hospitality and great facilities. Makuzi Beach Lodge is a perfect location for a romantic getaway or a family holiday.

Day 10-12: Chelinda Camp, Nyika National Park

As soon as you are done with breakfast, we will depart from Mazuki Beach and drive you over to Chelinda, an alpine experience, unique on the African continent.

Located high on the Nyika Plateau within Nyika National Park, Chelinda Camp overlooks a crystal clear dam with panoramic views of rolling hills and isolated ridges with a rich expanse of grasslands, dotted with herds of wildlife from eland to zebra and roan antelope. Accommodation at Chelinda Camp consists of two options. There are four chalets which have two bedrooms, a bathroom, lounge, dining area with a fireplace and a small kitchen. There are also six en-suite rooms with twin beds which share a dining, bar and lounge area complete with luxurious furnishings and an inviting fireplace for those cosy nights in.

It is advisable to bring warm clothing as nights and early mornings on the plateau can get chilly.

Day 12-14: Hiking Trail, Nyika National Park

Today you will do The Livingstonia Trail, which is a two-night/three-day hike comprising approximately six hours walking per day. The first day traverses the high plateau grasslands as far as the Phata Stream where camp is made.

The second day is a steep descent through the Mwenembwe Forest to the boundary of the Nyika National Park at Chakaka Village.

The third day is along the steep sided North Rumphi valley through Malawian villages where the people eke out an existence from the steep slopes. There is then a final ascent to Livingstonia.

Accommodation is in trail-camps that are situated near rivers; each site has sturdy small tents and eco-friendly latrine services (long drops) and bucket showers provided with water heated over the fire. Drinking water is available throughout the trip from the mountain streams; however once you reach the park boundary on the second day it is not advisable to drink from these. Three wholesome meals a day are provided; the exact menu will depend on time of year and your personal preferences.

Day 14-16: Sangilo Sanctuary Lodge, Livingstonia

After the hike you will go to Sangilo Lodge. Here you have two nights to recover from the hike and enjoy the beautiful northern lakeshore.

Nestled in a secluded cove on the Sangilo peninsula, the Sanctuary Lodge provides an idyllic escape to the lake in northern Malawi. The tastefully furnished cliff-top chalets provide a unique view along the peninsula, to Chilumba Island and across Lake Malawi to the magnificent Livingstonia mountain range in Tanzania.

Day 16: Departure Lilongwe

All good things come to an end, and so does this trip. From Sangilo Sanctuary Lodge we will drive you straight to Lilongwe International Airport to catch your flight back home.

Day 1-2: Kumbali Country Lodge, Lilongwe

Welcome to Malawi! Upon arrival at Lilongwe International Airport, you will be welcomed by your Malawian Style guide who, after greetings, will drive you to Kumbali Country Lodge.

Kumbali Country Lodge is a private lodge, situated on a 650-hectare forest reserve and dairy farm land, only 10 minutes from the capital city, Lilongwe, along a quiet traffic-free road. The accommodation is stylish, relaxed and comfortable – it is much more than just another Lilongwe hotel. There is a stunning pool, which is the perfect place to relax after a long flight.

Day 2-5: Wildlife Camp, South Luangwa

After a night at Kumbali Country Lodge, it is now time to head to South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. You will be transferred by road to Wildlife Camp.

Wildlife Camp is a safari camp on the banks of the South Luangwa National park. The guests are provided with an affordable front–row seat to one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in Africa.

After a breathtaking safari we leave South Luangwa to see the best parts of Malawi. After breakfast we will head to the stunning Luwawa Forest Lodge. Here you will be based in chalet accommodation which caters on a full board basis. You will spend one night in the lodge.

There is plenty of room in the dining area of the lodge and all the food is freshly prepared using fresh organic vegetables from a vegetable garden.
