Kuthengo is situated on a large open plain in the Liwonde National Park, tucked away in the trees are 4 safari tents each with their own spectacular view, overlooking the Shire River. Enjoy the wildlife that frequent the plains from your very own balcony or sit in the cosy rustic common area with a cup of tea or a glass of wine. Enjoy a game drive, boat cruise or walking safari – there is something for all to enjoy.
The views overlooking the Shire River are spectacular. The rooms are nicely tucked away within the fever trees so offer a real sense of privacy and the views from your very own balcony are very impressive. The food is delicious and the hosts and staff friendly and hospitable with fantastic attention to detail. Kuthengo Camp is a lovely intimate place to enjoy a safari for a few days.

The camp is small and intimate with only 4 safari tents, the decor simple and yet stylish and comfortable. Each tent has its own en-suite bathroom with a big bath and outdoor shower that looks out onto the river. With your own balcony facing the river, it’s the perfect spot for a sundowner. The lounge and bar area is charming and you get a gorgeous view of the plains in front of you and when you aren’t on an activity the plunge pool makes it all the better to relax and cool off in the African sunshine. Listen to the wildlife around you and take in the scenic views, with one of the most spectacular sunsets around.
Kuthengo is one of two camps within the Liwonde National Park, so if you want to enjoy a safari in peace with hardly anyone around then this is the place for you. The park is unspoiled, and you can enjoy walking safaris, game drives and river cruises when staying at Kuthengo, with great sightings of wildlife including, lion, cheetah and rhino. The birdlife on the river is also exciting and elephant and buffalo frequent the banks regularly. You won’t be disappointed with what the park has to offer.
The hosts at Kuthengo are warm, welcoming and attentive you can be sure you will always be greeted with smiles and help with any request. The guides are knowledgeable and passionate about the bush and the conservation. They will pass on some incredible insights into the bush and you will feel at one with nature, getting you as close to the action as they can. The guides ensure that they tailor your experience to suit you and will make your safari with Kuthengo personal and memorable.
I would rather not write this review because I want to keep this place a secret! But okay! Me and my husband regret only staying one night in this amazing place! The tent was luxurious and clean with a wonderful mosquito net that had built in air conditioning.
From the moment Jason and Michael met us at the airstrip we knew that we were going to have fun! The camp is situated on a beautiful stretch of the Shire River and the tents were just outstanding, Jason and Steegan run a very happy camp and this is very obvious from the moment you arrive in camp, everyone from the head guide Patrick to the chef Dixon and his best mate Amun and all the other staff are laughing and joking with each other but still professional. The highlight of our trip was the surprise Bush Breakfast.
Kuthengo Camp is currently a 4 chalet private lodge ideal for those looking for an intimate experience in a National Park. They have beautiful rooms as shown above, the hosts are wonderful (see below), the food is delicious, and the location is completely relaxing.
