Lodge Key Features

Food

The food at Mgoza has long since been celebrated and is top quality. From indulgent chocolate lava cakes to fresh fruit smoothies it is well worth a visit for a meal alone! Mgoza uses fresh ingredients grown locally and has a great bar as an accompaniment. The seating is based out on the beach next to the lake so you can enjoy alfresco meals but they do have table inside should you wish.

Pool

One of the few budget friendly lodges with a pool, it is the perfect place to cool off in the heat of the day. Whilst the lake is beautiful and in areas crystal clear in Cape Maclear the beachfront can get busy so the addition of a private pool for the lodge is welcomed. You can also order a few cool drinks from your sun lounger by the pool which is a nice way to spend an afternoon.

Rustic charm

The lodge has a beautiful rustic charm from the wooden A-frames to the small elevated lounge where they often play sporting matches. The restaurant is always lively with the local expat crowd usually in for their chocolate fix and the small bar and pool provide a great area to have sundowners. The owner Alan is involved with many community projects and is often onsite so it is worth chatting to the staff about what projects you can visit or help out with during your stay.

  • Lovely spot to stay

We enjoyed our stay at Mgoza. The vibe is great. The staff very friendly and the rooms are very comfortable. There is a bit of noise from the road, but this is likely the case for most of the accommodation in Cape Maclear.

    Lovely spot to stay
  • Beautiful place, chill, no nonsense, relaxed

We had a great stay at Mgoza Lodge in the Cottage. Beautiful spot, very friendly personnel and owner. Very affordable price, nice food. They take care about the community and the environment (sponsor and driving force in the recycle shop). Don’t know how they survive with these low prices and the high service level. With no doubt the best lodge money can buy at Cape Maclear.
