Nyika itself offers a number of exciting and picturesque hikes. If you head up this way when visiting Malawi and are a keen hiker, then be sure to look into the Livingstonia Trail. Spend 2 nights and 3 days hiking from Chelinda to the famous Livingstonia Mission, which over-looks the vast and exquisite Lake Malawi. Trek through grass land, drink water from the streams, and hike down steep hills into forests and along the side of valleys. It’s a ‘wild’ camping experience with some of the most gorgeous settings around.

Due to the high altitude, Nyika is pretty cold all year round – very different from the rest of Malawi. Chelinda Lodge has a real sense of being up a mountain in the Alps (minus the snow of course) and the log cabins have a warm feel to them with wooden floors and wood-panelled walls. Each with its very own fireplace which roars heat every night, get cosy with a loved one and enjoy a hot cup of tea by the fire and relax in your cosy den.
