Welcome to Malawi! Upon arrival at the Lilongwe International Airport, you will meet your Malawian Style guide. Your guide will transfer you to Kumbali Country Lodge, a beautiful setting on the outskirts of Lilongwe. Here you can relax and unwind and enjoy your evening with a sundowner, or two, before heading to South Luangwa the following day.
After breakfast, it’s time to hit the road and head to South Luangwa National Park. Your guide will transfer you to Nkonzi, which is approximately 5 hours from Lilongwe. During your time at Nkonzi you will spend your days enjoying the bush. Each day you will get the opportunity to enjoy two safari activities, you can choose a game drive or walking safari, or both. You will be accompanied by one of Nkonzi’s highly knowledgeable guides providing a fantastic opportunity to learn lots about South Luangwa’s amazing wildlife.
Following 4 nights in the bush it’s time to visit Lake Malawi, first stop Kumbali Lake Retreat. Kumbali Lake Retreat is an eco-friendly lodge on the beautiful shores of Lake Malawi. Owned and run by the same family who owns Kumbali Country Lodge, the lake retreat comes with the same familiar ‘home away from home’ feel with comfort and nature at the main focus.
After a good night’s sleep and a delicious breakfast, it is time to head to Mumbo Island. Your guide will transfer you to Cape Maclear, which is about a 1-2hr drive, in time for your afternoon boat transfer to the island. Mumbo is based 10km off the Cape Maclear peninsula and takes 45 minutes by boat.
Enjoy the next 3 days in paradise, make the most of the incredible snorkelling, crystal clear waters, fascinating birdlife, diverse flora and fauna, semi challenging walks and stunning sunsets. Make sure to hike up to Pod Rock for a sundowner.
All the good things must come to an end, and today after breakfast you will be transferred by boat to Cape Maclear – mainland. You will meet your Malawian Style guide and will then start your journey back to Lilongwe International Airport for your flight back home.

Upon arrival at Mfuwe Airport your Kafunta guide will greet you and transfer you to Kafunta. Kafunta is in a fantastic location overlooking a game rich flood plain adjacent to the Luangwa River and the South Luangwa National Park. Kafunta River Lodge is said by many to be one of the best wildlife viewing points in Africa. After a day of game-drives you will be able to relax around the camp fire and share stories of your sightings.
After breakfast, it’s time to go deeper into the bush to Three Rivers Camp. Three Rivers Camp is located approximately 2 hours south of Kafunta River Lodge Three Rivers Camp is the latest addition to the Kafunta Safaris’ portfolio and is set at the confluence of the Luangwa, Kapamba and Lusangazi Rivers in South Luangwa, Zambia. The stylish tents lay under shady sausage trees and are facing either the Luangwa River or the game-rich lagoon.
Three Rivers Camp is exquisitely intimate with only 5 spacious tents, elegantly decorated with natural materials and earthy hues. They have large gauzed windows embracing extensive views of the Luangwa River and the nearby lagoon. Each tent has its own wooden deck with comfy chairs to enjoy the surrounding vistas.
After breakfast it’s time to hit the road and head to Senga Bay, Salima, approximately a 7-hour drive from South Luangwa. From Senga Bay, there is a boat transfer to the island which takes about 20 minutes. Blue Zebra Island Lodge is tucked away on Nankoma Island, a part of the Marelli Island archipelago. During your time on the island, you will be able to enjoy drinks by the pool, soak in the sun on the beach, snorkel and discover the Blue Zebra Cichlids, and even play badminton. The island is renowned for its dazzling array of bird life, you will find yourself on an unspoiled island paradise, surrounded by nature and luxury.
All the good things must come to an end and today after breakfast you will be transferred back to Lilongwe International Airport for your flight back home. We hope to see you again soon…

Our representative at Kuyenda will meet you at Mfuwe Airport and transfer you to your first of 2 bush camp stays in South Luangwa National Park.
There’s something undeniably special about Kuyenda. Set beneath shady trees by the Manzi River, Kuyenda embodies the authentic charm of old Africa with its cluster of traditional thatched grass huts and back-to-nature feel. As for the wildlife, you hardly need to look for it as it will come to you. Settle down in the lounge and look out over the rippling grasses of the neighbouring plain where the drama of the African wilderness is played out each day.
It is now time to move to Zungulila Camp, a charming camp that embodies the essence of old Africa and a bygone era, with breathtaking views onto the Kapamba river and an expansive plain where natural springs attract huge herds of game. Zungulila is eminently peaceful, and you may be tempted to stay forever!
After breakfast in the bush, it is time for one last game drive through the park, to the Mfuwe Gate, which will take about 2-3 hrs, and is where you will meet our guide to drive you to Mfuwe Airport. Here you will get your 1 hr flight to Lilongwe where you will catch a short 1 hr connecting flight to your next destination within Lake Malawi, Likoma Island. From here you will take a short boat ride to Nkwichi, on the Mozambique shores of the lake.
More than a lodge, Nkwichi is a complete experience offering a unique taste of Africa with exquisite lakeside scenery and unparalleled tranquility. With 8 secluded beaches set on 4 km of Rift Valley coastline, Nkwichi is the perfect setting to discover a lost world; a fresh-water oasis and an Africa untouched.
Following a couple of nights at Nkwichi, it is time to return to Malawi and enjoy your final days at Kaya Mawa.
