#6 Liwonde sunset
A stunning pinkish-red sunset on the river, at the end of your game drive will not leave you without reaction.
Liwonde offers a stunning view of the sun going down on the river, behind the palm trees.
Enjoy it with a cold drink while the shadows get bigger and the moon higher.
#5 Makuzi beach sunrise
Pitch your tent in the dark, facing the lake, to get the full surprise. You’ll be woken early morning by the pink light of
the sun rise on the lake, open your tent and enjoy the view of the sun reflecting off the lake!
If you’re brave enough to get up you can enjoy from the beach, a few meters away!
#4 Kuti Wildlife Reserve sunset
The reserve says it themselves, it offers the best sunset in Malawi! Indeed, Kuti has a lot to show when it comes to sunset!
From the deck relax and admire the bright red sun coming down on the floodplain.
The view is stunning and even more enjoyable with the sound of birds and the quietness of the bush!
#3 Nyika Plateau sunrise
Wake up very early and jump in a safari vehicle, let your guide drive you to the best spot and enjoy the sun rising on the Plateau.
Watch as it rises over the long, rolling hills, turning the sky a light pink colour. No better way to start a day!
#2 Cape Maclear sunset
Witness a true African Sunset! At the end of a warm day by the lake sit on the beach to enjoy the view of the sun setting over Thumbi Island.
Lake Malawi offers a unique sunset spot and Cape Maclear is one of the best places to admire it.
The sun turns into a red fireball while the sky, little by little goes from orange to pink as the sun goes down until it dips in the lake.
A few seconds, and it’s gone, don’t miss it: every day between 5:00 and 6:00pm!
#1 Chisepo hut (Mount Mulanje) sunrise
Number 1 on our list because it is a stunning sunrise but also because it is a very hard one to see:
Chisepo hut’s sunrise! To see this one, you’ll need to work for it by first climbing mount Mulanje the day before.
Spend a warm night by the fire in the hut and early morning, when you hear the first sounds get up and walk outside.
The view of the valley is literally stunning, the silence adds even more intensity to the moment.
If you walk a little bit you’ll see a stream, sit and admire the sun rising over Malawi, the shadows in the valley becoming smaller and the birds awakening.
If you are at the end of your hike, there’s no better reward and if you are at the beginning take it as a way for the mountain to welcome you!
In a league of its own, sunset from Mount Mulanje
One of the most stunning sunsets we’ve experienced in Malawi was while going down from Sapitwa.
This one is in a league of its own because we don’t recommend you to be hiking in the mountain at night.
We were late to go down and got caught by the dark -scary situation- but we decided to make the most of it
and had the privilege to witness one of the most incredible sunsets dominating the country.
In the middle of nowhere, in an absolute silence the sun, little by little went down under our amazed eyes!
These moments are unique and you have to see it to believe it, visit Malawi and we’ll be more than happy to share all this beauty with you!
