Malawian Style was started in July 2010, with a simple aim; to give our clients the best experiences at the most reasonable prices.

Mike Varndell - Managing Director

Although born in Zimbabwe, Mike grew up in Malawi, so it is very much home for him. After graduating with a bachelor of Business Administration from the University of South Africa, Mike moved to London and spent six years living the London dream. However, Africa was always in his heart and in 2009 he moved back to Malawi to set up Malawian Style. Just two years on he has never looked back.

Loving life and his work in Malawi, he has found a perfect balance and aims to share the many wonders of Malawi with the world. He relishes making the tours as special as they can be, continually expanding them to include all the best spots in Malawi and the surrounding areas.

The thing he enjoys most about his job? The rewarding feeling of helping people to have the time of their lives in Africa.

Eddie

Our Malawian born head driver and tour guide joined the team in September 2011. He has been off to a flying start and all of our guests are singing his praise. A Malawi expert, Eddie has lived all over the country including Mwanza, Thyolo, Blantyre, Zomba, Nkhata bay and Lilongwe. He graduated from Lilongwe Technical College in Auto Electronics, so luckily for us not only is he a wonderful guide but also helps to keep our vehicles in perfect working order.

Since joining Malawian Style Eddie has been a fantastic asset to the team and as a perfectionist he is always willing to put in the extra effort.

His favourite thing about working for Malawian Style is meeting people from all over the world and teaching them about the history and secrets of beautiful Malawi.

Intern Program

In Summer 2011, Malawian Style set up an intern program to give international people a chance to come and work in Malawi for a three month period. Based in Lilongwe they help mainly with the marketing side of things, but also have the chance to explore Malawi by assisting on some of the exciting Malawian Style tours and adventures.

So far so good. All of our interns have loved Malawi and have had the best time not wanting to leave. It has also been great for Malawian Style, as each has brought with them different energies and ideas helping to move our brand forward.
