FLIGHTS TO MALAWI

As you can imagine the demand for international flights to Malawi is not massive, and many people think it is a mission to get to but actually it is really easy and inexpensive.

From South Africa: Direct flights into Lilongwe and Blantyre on a daily basis on both South African Airways and Air Malawi.

From Europe There are countless airlines (BA, SAA, Virgin, Luftansa, Swiss Air, KLM, Air France, Air Kenya, Ethiopian Airlines) that fly into Johannesburg every day, with daily connecting flights onto Malawi. Air Malawi and South African Airways fly directly to Malawi each day and alternate between Blantyre and Lilongwe.

The cheaper option, which can be as cheap as GBP500 if you look around, would be to fly with KLM, Air France, Air Kenya or Ethiopian Airlines which have a short stopover in Nairobi/ Addis Abbaba on route. These all fly into Lilongwe, which is the starting point for all the tours.

From USA: Many airlines, including SAA, Virgin, Luftansa and Delta, run across the Atlantic from USA and Canada to Johannesburg. There are direct flights from both New York and Washington into Johannesburg, and again, connecting flights on SAA and Air Malawi run daily and this is just a 2 hour flight.

From Australia: Quantas, Virgin and South African Airlines have direct flights from both Perth and Sydney into Johannesburg. Virgin has direct flights for Melbourne to Johannesburg. Air Malawi and SAA run daily for Johannesburg into Malawi, alternating between Blantyre and Lilongwe and this is just a short 2 hour flight

From Asia: Ethiopian Airlines and Air Kenya now have flights out of Lilongwe with a stopover in Nairobi/ Addis Abbaba on route to Bangkok and Hong Kong. South African Airways also has direct flights from Mumbai and Hong Kong into Johannesburg and there are connecting flights daily on both Air Malawi and South African Airways to Blantyre and Lilongwe operating on alternate days.
