Welcome to Mount Mulanje. Welcome to the unspoilt heart of Malawi.
Mount Mulanje is one of the world's tallest inselbergs(an inselberg is a rocky mass that stands isolated in a level surrounding area). It rises abruptly from the surrounding plain, which makes its view absolutely breathtaking. Its name translates to 'island in the sky'.
With a height of more than 3000m and an area of 1000 square km, Mount Mulanje is one of Malawi's most spectacular sights, and a place that the locals consider sacred. The Mount Mulanje Biosphere Reserve is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Mount Mulanje is punctuated by deep gorges down which rivers with spectacular waterfalls tumble. It has a well organized system of trails and huts, leading through forests of large cedar trees that are more than 40m tall(the Mulanje Cedar is also Malawi's national tree, incidentally).
While the climb is fairly easy, you can still pick a trail, depending on your fitness and comfort levels(a short and steep climb, or a longer and relatively easy one). .
Malawian Style's tours of Mount Mulanje are intended to be unhurried, unrushed and tailored to your individual preferences, so you can get to know Mulanje intimately, personally.
